Tri-Level Aerobic Power Index Test
The Aerobic power index API test involves a graded exercise procedure whereby the starting work rate is 150 kpm/min or 25 watts and the work rate is increased by 150 kpm/min or 25 watts each minute until a heart rate equivalent to 75% of the predicted maximum heart rate of the subject is attained or passed.
This test is a component of the Tri-level Fitness profile , the other components consist of an Alactic Power and Work Index and an Anaerobic Work Index test and is designed to give athletes an indication of their performance status in all energy systems. The aerobic power index test is similar to the PWC170 test with the exception that steps are more graduated, the end point is age specific and the results are expressed in W/Kg.
